Crowned the best player of the Euroleague regular season this Tuesday, Mike James undoubtedly reigned supreme with AS Monaco. For the first time, a player from a French team wins the highest individual award in European competitions. A trophy worthy of the historic season of the American leader who averaged 17.9 points, 5.1 assists and 1.2 interceptions in 39 games played.
With this MVP title, the Portland native succeeds Bulgarian Sacha Vezenkov, who was then at Olympiakos. But the 2023-2024 season was not as successful on a collective level after the narrow elimination of AS Monaco in match 5 of the quarter-finals against Fenerbahçe. Less precise, the leader was limited to 13 points and 4.8 assists in the series against the Turkish club.
Already among the best five of the competition, James played one of his best European campaigns with the Principality shirt. In March, against Red Star Belgrade, he became the best scorer in Euroleague history surpassing Vassilis Spanoulis’ 4,455 points.
